We only had just under 7 miles until Carson Pass Visitor Centre where we would hitch into South Lake Tahoe. We woke to a beautiful sunrise over the lake, at one point the sun was slightly obscured by the clouds just as it was rising up over the lake and it was heart shaped and glowing red. We packed up and started hiking just after 6:30 keen to get to town before 2pm when the cafe Ernie's closed which we had heard did a great all day breakfast. We first had to cross Carson Pass which had 3 snowy traverses, me and Marcus decided to wear one crampon each as we figured it was better than nothing and Marcus used the ice axe to just in case. Luckily the traverses didn't feel too sketchy and we crossed with no issues. It was only a couple of miles down the other side to the road and we arrived by 11:15. We were grated by lovely rangers working at the d visitor centre and trail magic - a cold lemonade and Oreos! After we had munched on these and chatted to the rangers we caught a hitch into town by a older couple, The woman was very chatty and friendly, her husband who was driving didn't speak much. They dropped us straight at Ernie's and I was soo happy to find that they did a vegan French toast-best breakfast on trail by far. We are and then me and Marcus went to check into Paradice Motel whilst shortcut headed to the campsite. We agreed to meet for dinner later after sorting and doing laundry. Mai who runs Paradice Motel was very friendly and let us do washing for free and gave us free beach passes and also gave me my parcel that i sent from KMS (my AtomPack!). However the room itself wasn't that nice, it was dingy, old and didn't feel fully clean, we were a bit disappointed but glad to have a bed at least. E meet shortcut at the brewery for pizza and beer and then went to a dive bar for another beer before calling it a night. We got a ride home from a very friendly Uber driver who told us stories about wm how bears can open car doors and frequently break into cars and steal food, he has his broken into last week!
