We had to say our goodbyes to Slide and Buddy in the morning as they caught the morning shuttle up to the trailhead. It was a bit of an emotional moment, the first step in the group splitting up. I probably wouldn't see Buddy on trail again as he needed to book it to Canada now to make it in time for his and Gills holiday at the beginning of September. With Side the goodbye felt different, less final, he'll book it for a while for sure but there was an part of him that seemed to think we would hike together again as it was more of a see you up trail than goodbye. We then spent the morning fixing things (like my broken tent peg and fly sheet strings) and packing up. Me and Shortcut has arranged to go stay at a trail angels cabin in Pinecrest for a night - Scott and Sailor (Alica). After lunch we packed up ready to catch a hitch down to Pinecrest which ment we also has to say goodbye to Yeehaw, this one also didn't feel final and we all agreed that even if we didn't see each other on trail we would meet up in Europe. Catching a hitch was easy as soon as we walked out of the door a guy offered us a ride, he was super friendly, a science high school teacher who was driving back to San Francisco after a weekend away. He even stopped off at the ranger station so i could pop in and sort Marcus's permit. He dropped us off the by the shops so we grabbed an iced coffee and then went to find the cabin. We were greeted by Mollie, Scot's daughter, she was down for July 4th weekend with her boyfriend and some friends. She living in a co-op with 19 people and some of her housemates were there too, Eli and Hakeem and some former housemates Garret and Sean. Mollie's boyfriend Miles also has some friends down Austin and ?. The cabin was super cute and everyone was very welcoming. We went down to the lake with Eli and Hakeem for an evening dip, the water was cold but it was refreshing. We all went back to the cabin for dinner, a feast of lovely salads and hot dogs/burgers (vegan hot dogs for me) . The was chat of going to the outdoor cinema but we ended up all staying at the cabin and Scott and Mollie got their guitar and ukulele out and stayed playing and singing, Hakeem joined in with singing and Sean on the box and Eli on the guitar, soon everyone was singing along, it was such a warm and lovely evening and we went to sleep happy and full.
