We started a little later this morning as we have decided that there isn't the need to start at 3am anymore now we have left the high Sierra and difficult passes. It was a chilly morning and even some of the little streams flowing across the path were frozen and icy. The switchbacks for the first ascent were mostly snow free which was nice but Shortcut took a tumble on an icy branch and fell into a little stream crossing the path, l luckily she wasn't hurt and it was only a teeny stream. It wasn't long until we were mostly back on snow for the day although we came across brief patches of dry trail here and there. We took it pretty chilled today, easing back in after town and the boys were in a good mood about taking it cool to which was nice. We passed thousand island lake although like all the others we have passed it was frozen and also went over Island Pass although we wouldn't really call it a pass, a gentle hill really. We took a long lunch relaxing in the sun and watching a little chipmunk dart around us. We camped just a mile down from there, deciding to stop when we saw a flat spot as we were all tired of walking in so cups , some knee deep.
