We woke to soaking wet tents and still a drizzle of rain. The begining of the Piute Trail (PCTA alternate route to avoid the damaged bridge) was snow free but basically a river, it wasnt too long though until we need to put on our crampons. I was feeling pretty tired after not getting a full nights sleep and the bag was heavy full of food. We steadily ascended until we hit the pass around 6:40am, it was a beautiful trail and the sun rise made it even more soo with the red light hitting the tips of the surrounding mountains. From the pass it was pretty much downhill until the PCT. The snow was exhausting to walk in as you sunk down with so many steps, Beer Slide and Yeehaw dashed ahead and were soon nowhere to be seen. When we all eventually regrouped we expressed our slight annoyance and them being soo far ahead and they expressed theirs at our pace, good to have it put in the open to better understand each others perspectives. The snow soon got slushy in the afternoon but we pushed on until just before 2 making it at extra 3.2 miles than we had planned. We had a fair few river crossings and some where our boots got a bit wet but my new boots seemed to hold up well and my feet stayed dry. We found a snow free spot to camp and luckily the sun was out to dry off all our stuff.
