Last night was a little warmer, i kicked off my second pair of socks and only woke a little chilly much later than normal. After packing up and breakfast we set off a four just before 8. Sasquatch gave us some verbal lateral thinking puzzles to pass the time. The first 7 miles went by quite quick although the downhill at the beginning was pretty steep and rocky and therefore hard on the feet and knees. We took a little mid-morning break in the shade before deciding we would try and get to the water tank at 13 miles so just 5 more ahead. That 5 miles was pretty brutal, we were soo exposed to the sun and it was scorching, my legs and hands turned more and more red, it felt like the hottest day so far. We could see the San Juanitos in the morning but lost sight of them throughout the day. We took a lunch break under the shelter of a bush and we're grateful for the water tank with a spigot and cold running water. We placed in the shade for a bit resting our feet and mentally preparing ourselves to go back into the heat for the remaining 6 miles - we wanted to camp real close to the road where you hitch into Julian so it would just be a sort mile day tomorrow. There was no more water till Julian so we had to fill up 4 litres each, the bags felt soo gravy on already tired backs. Those last 6 miles were so brutal, with a few sneaky ascents that we weren't expecting, the last 2 miles were soo slow, me and Conor were behind sassy and Christina as they had left the lunch spot a little before so were soo happy when we finally saw them and camp. Adrew was there too after bumping into sat at the lunch spot and they started calling location plans. The evening was warm and we sat out chatting and having dinner. It was very windy putting the tents up so i hope mine stays up through the night! Evetything is dirty and sore and burnt but spirits are still high. First town day tomorrow!
