We hasn't slept well with the high winds last night and woke to more wind and light rain so we're in no rush to leave. Me and shortcut made tea to have in our tents before we even thought about moving. By the time we left it was gone 8am. We bumped into Sophie just as we were leaving the campsite and joining back on trail and chatted for almost 20 mins, it was nice to catch up and hear about their SOBO flip. Shortly after we bumped into Abbey and Sam too and also chatted to them for a while, it was a slow morning for sure. It was also windy, chilly and grey so we were wrapped up in our rain gear. We had about 14 miles to get to Cajon Pass where we had agreed to regroup in the MacDonald's to discuss plans for the upcoming snow storm. Despite the really strong winds almost blowing our hats and us off trail the views were lovely and we could see snowy mount Baden Powell poking out of the clouds. We arrived battered by the wind at midday, got some food and discussed plans. The snow strong was going to last till Thursday evening so earliest we could get back on trail would be Friday morning so we had 3 nights and 2 days where we would have to hunker down and take some zeros. Option 1 was to save a bit of money and camp under the highway underpass tonight and then walk into Wrightwood tomorrow and stay there 2 nights or just walk in today and stay for 3 nights. We couldn't camp on trail as the trail from here to Wrightwood was closed due to the Non wild fire so we would have to road walk into Wrightwood. After seeing how busy and noisy the Highway was and how windy it would be under there we decided to walk into Wrightwood and just pay up for 3 nights. We booked an air bnb for me, Shortcut and Beer Slide and began walking just after 2.30pm. The road walk was pretty brutal, 2 miles off pretty much continuous uphill until the last mile, we bought a tinny from the gas station for the journey but a couple of hours in we were exhausted. When we finally saw the sign for Wrightwood we were soo happy although the walk to our air bnb still took almost another hour. We were exhausted from a 26.5 mile day on basically no sleep. The house was super cute and Arlene had left us a welcome sign outside and inside there was tea, biscuits, clean PJs to wear and we offered to clean all our laundry, hot shower with shampoo & conditioner, duvets off the beds - it was amazing. We dropped our bags and headed straight too the Mexican restaurant for dinner where we meet Tito and a woman named Mary (Rosemary). We filled up on burritos and tacos before crawling home with sore feet. It was a late night and by the time we had showered and had a cup of tea it was already 11pm - so late for us! crawling into bed felt good
