I wake feeling much better. The smoke has lifted and it feels like I'll be able to see some views today. I properly enter three sisters wilderness and finally can see the three sisters just the top of the peaks obscured by clouds but otherwise surrounded by blue skies. it's really beautiful. It's a mix of walking through rolling Meadows and passing by Lakes. I take my lunch break by a lake and chat to the southbound hiker who is finishing off a section of the hike that she'd missed last year. I want to hit 35 miles today to reach a campsite near the McKenzie pass Road so I just have a short day into Bend tomorrow. The second part of the day count is different terrain, I start to hit lava fields and it feels like I'm on Mars, it's hard under the foot. There is a steep ascent and it's windy but the landscape is surreal and cool. I then descend down through a burn scar to the campsite. The Sun is starting to set so I set my tent up quickly, and once again the pole hub connector breaks. I managed to botch together with gorilla tape and it just about holes for the night.
