Some days on a thru hike are just hard and frankly kinda suck. But that’s okay, it’s part of it, today was one of those days. My body felt weary and tired, like it could feel every one of those 1900 miles I had put it through so far. The trail felt quiet, like really quiet, after the contrast of a super sociable weekend with everyone at Trail Days. The smoke blowing in from nearby wildfires was making my throat feel scratchy and was obscuring the views. There were more big burn scars to walk through. I was definitely feeling some post festival blues but I tried to channel that into my hiking and get some miles in. One of the big things a hike like this really drums into you is the impermanence of everything, the bad moments, the good moments, the hard ones, the cold, the heat, they will all pass. So I embraced the suck today, knowing it wouldn’t last. And even in the sucky days there are moments to appreciate and be grateful for - the flowers growing in the burn scar, my lunchtime swim, a good campspot with a nice lakeside
