I hiked back to the Rim Trail to catch the sunrise over the lake, there was a layer of smoke above the horizon but even so it was beautiful, the sun slowly emerging from the layer of smoke looking like a glowing red planet. I chatted to some tourists as we watched the sunrise and they asked lots about the hike. Then it was time to get some miles in again. I stopped and chatted to two friendly NOBOs, data & evergreen, for a while before pushing on. It was pretty overcast again and towards the afternoon Thunder started to roll in and little bits of rain. It even started hailing at one point. I passed a SOBO couple hiking with their very cute 10 month old baby, Cheeks, and we chatted for a bit. I passed the OR/WA high point, which was actually a little underwhelming although I did get good views of Mount Theilesen. I ended up hiking just over 30 miles and set up with an excellent view on a outcropped rocky ledge.
