I started early with my head torch lighting the way I had 8 miles to go until the first water source, a piped spring. I stopped there for a quick break to stretch and fill up, knowing the next water was another 8 miles away again. The views today, we're not much to shout about hiking through trees, a lot of them dead and fallen. I've passed a fair few Sobo hikers who told me the water pump at the cabin was working again and that there was Trail magic just half a mile beyond it. After I filled up my water again, I headed to the dirt road where the trail magic was a couple was set up there, including a guy named fireman who had hiked the PCT in 2018, who had hoped that like on a normal year. The main bubble would be passing by here and had driven three hours from Bend to do Trail magic for the weekend. They were disappointed to discover that there was no bubble this year, due to the snow and Soerra and they hadn't seen many hackers come by at all.
They had so many burgers and sausages and hotdogs ready to cook and again we're disappointed when I said I was vegan and couldn't eat them to where the hikers eventually showed up they were vegetarian so it was the same story. I felt bad for the Trail Angels. I met a SoBo hiker, who is hiking with his dog Bruno. His dog had only just joined him yesterday and was going to be hiking with him until Lake Tahoe. I didn't stick around for long knowing the day was just going to get hotter and hotter, and it was another 10 miles to the next water for the next mile, there are lots of Huckleberry plants so I can eat and hike. The trail went between shaded trees and rocky lava fields which are very uncomfortable under the foot. And hot exposed to the Sun. It was 4 pm as I approached the next water source which is right by a Highway. I only planned on going an extra 3 miles so as I had time and it was so hot, I decided I would try to hitch the 2 miles down the road to the fish lake resort where there was a café that was meant to be very hikeer friendly. I got a hitch in about 15 minutes and when I rolled up outside the café, I was very happy to see lucky sat at the table. I was also surprised and wondered how she had hoped to so fast. It turns out her injury was quite bad and she has been picked up. Had a previous road by Trail Angel and driven here for a rest. The Trail Angel was sat at the table with her and he told us many stories about his adventures. The staff at the café were really friendly and made me a grilled vegetable sandwich and a vegan milkshake, using dairy free, dark chocolate ice cream with almond milk. Trail Angel insisted on paying for mine and Marcela's food, which was very kind of him. We decided we are both trying to catch a ride back to Trail together and plan to camp at the same spot 3 miles up. Another Trail Angel from Ashland was sat in the café and said he would be happy to give us a ride back to Trail, the hike up to the camp didn't take too long, and it was in the shade of the trees when we got there two guys, David and Dan section hikers had met inside Valley with her so I said hello before setting up our tents and going to sleep
