I set off a little earlier this morning, wanting to make it 27 miles today, which would be my biggest day so far. There was a light breeze and the air was nice and cool before sunrise which made the sense easier. I didn’t have to have my head torch on for long as soon the sun started to rise above the mountains. This is always my favourite part of the day hiking watching the sunrise and the soft colours in the sky. We got beautiful views over the marble mountains, with the big white slabs of rock sticking out amongst the rest. Despite going for a long day, I took an extended lunch break as I got chatting to the hikers that I camped with last night, the afternoon was hot and there was less water about, so I had to plan my water carries much more carefully. As it got later into the afternoon the air started to slowly cool and the hiking became easier again. I took a break for dinner at the top of the ridge before pushing on the final few miles to reach my camp. There I was joined by two deer, who are very curious and friendly and not at all afraid. One followed me when I went to poop and stood there watching me - that was a bit unnerving! Another hiker Maximus joined me at the campsite an hour later we chatted about what had brought us to hike the PCT, whilst watching the sunset. He was an older guy but turned oht we had similarities in our storeies, he was also hiking it for his late father.
