First full zero town day! We had a chilled start to the day having a coffee in our cabin before heading to Amelia's for donuts for breakfast at 9. We then had some chores to do, picking up resupply boxes at the post office and asking around about trail conditions. We had planned a big group meet up for 12 so we could all discuss what we had found out about the trail conditions for San Jacinto. I messaged Dutch Robert to see if he had done it and it turned out he was in Idyllwild after coming down from the mountain yesterday after doing the Apache peak section, he agreed to meet us all at 12 too to share his advice. We had a helpful conversation with the woman in the gear shop who had been up 3 days prior and said it was pretty sketchy up there for at least 8 miles, steep sections, blowouts and postholing. I fit in a quick FaceTime with Marcus but agreed to do a longer catch up later, he has just finished work and as it was the anniversary of his dads death he needed some post work time to decompress, I was a little worried about him and tried to get hold of Tassie so see if she could run over some treats but unfortunately she was at her mums.
At 12 we all gathered for a hot dog at Dick's dogs to discuss plans. Robert advised it was pretty sketchy and they bailed after an exhausting day of doing the first and hardest section. He agreed with the woman in the shop that we should go up and do the first day up there to see the peak for ourselves and then make our own judgement call. Abbey, Sophie and Sam decided they wouldn't and would flip up to Tehachapi and hike back south to Idyllwild. Devon, Rimke and Loeck decided they would do the same as us and see what it was like before making a decision.
We asked around about meeting the dog mayor Max and were given a number to call to arrange a visit, we were told he was at a seminar but would come into town to meet us at 5:30. I had a nice long chat with Marcus in the afternoon and then killed some time at the cabin with Andrew, Eleanor and Tito watching Netflix (I think you should leave) and eating Titos French pancakes (he wven made me some vegan ones!).
At 5:30 we headed to meet mayor Max and deputy mayor Meadow (his sister), they were very cute. We then got the fire going at the cabin, ate dinner and had a movie night. I also made use of the jacuzzi bath which was very nice and we packed up our bags and arranged a lift back up to PVC for 9am the next morning. Went to bed about 9:30
