We only had 12 miles to make it to Sierra City so had time to go for a morning swim and eat breakfast with Sherri and Jeff before hiking out. We packed up our tent whilst Jeff started cooking vegan pancakes. As soon as we joined them Sherri poured us both some coffee and we were soon handed plates of pancakes and strawberries 🥰 Marcus and Jeff also had some bacon and eggs. We headed down to the lake for one last dip before setting off, the morning light was lovely and the water so refreshing. The last 16 hours had felt like a proper holiday. We said goodbye to Sherri and Jeff and thanked them again for their generosity and hit the trail. It was hot but luckily the trail was mostly in the shade. We hiked for a few hours, aiming to make it to a big river for lunch. There were 3 guys hanging out there when we stopped and they kindly gave us a beer to enjoy over lunch. We caught a hitch very quickly into Sierra City, it was sad to think that that was our last day hiking the trail together. Sierra City was so tiny, pretty much just the general store, one cafe and a couple of hotels. We ate burgers from the store cafe and bought some groceries before heading to our room at Buttes resort - the 'honeymoon suite'. It was the only room going, it was pretty dated but clean and had what we needed including a little kitchenette. We had some beers and watched the pursuit of happiness before heading to bed.
