Day 45
Miles Hiked: 0
Mile 703.4 to Mile 717.7
The End :(
The group from yesterday ended up doing more miles than anticipated, goving them a ten mile headstart on significant elevation gain. They're camping above 10,000' tonight, about 25 miles in, and I wasn't able to close the gap. I think I should've left my snow gear behind for this stretch because it made my pack far too heavy. I switched to hiking in the mountaineering boots and carrying the trail runners to save weight, but the boots are too stiff to make good regular hiking boots. Since I can't catch up and there are no more hikers behind us, I don't have people to hike with through the High Sierra and have to end my thru hike here. Maybe in the future, I can come back and try again, and actually see the mountains.
