Day 21

Miles Hiked: 0
Mile 246.5 to Mile 268.6

  • Trail: Today was mostly downhill on well-maintained trail, so easy miles! I saw a deer crossing the trail and los of Joshua trees, which were cool. Someone left water and a bag of fruit for hikers where the trail crosses a major road, so I had an apple for dessert and have an orange for tomorrow.
  • Campsite: I stopped at Doble Trail Camp because they have water and a pit toilet. It's also about a mile from the city dump and has massive cougar prints left in the dried mud. 😬
  • People: I met lots of day hikers near the Big Bear trailhead, but otherwise I haven't seen many thru hikers. Two Czech hikers, Villi and Stepán, showed up after me at the same campsite and proceeded to smoke weed, watch videos, and talk loudly directly outside my tent, even though there are plenty of other spaces to be obnoxious.
  • Tomorrow: I'm going to try to get an early start, if the other hikers ever shut up and go to bed. There's a good campsite 20 miles from here. [ETA: They, in fact, did not shut up, but did apologize for being loud when I ran into them at trail magic the next day.]
