Day 15

Miles Hiked: 0
San Jacinto summit to Mile 187.8
N 33.729040° W 116.601397°

  • Trail: For safety, I decided to go back down the summit the way I came with two other hikers. The PCT itself is still in bad condition and especially difficult to navigate with only one trekking pole. The log bridge over the North Fork of the San Jacinto River gave me vertigo, so I crossed where it broke across a small waterfall with the help of another hiker. Definitely would've been easier with two poles, but ultimately was less risky than the log.
  • Campsite: The most sheltered spot I could find at Fuller Ridge (still very windy). I splinted my broken trekking pole to set up the tent, and I hope it holds. It's still pretty bent. I'm trying to dry out my shoes and socks, but I think it's too cold.
  • People: I hiked down the summit with Matthais and Hannah, a couple from Germany. I saw B, from the UK, again, but she hiked further up to Black Mountain Road.
  • Tomorrow: Still trying to get down the mountain to someplace I can cowboy camp.  😭 The next section will be snowy, across switchbacks filled with fallen trees, so I'll probably have to do yet more wayfinding.
